"MIRALL" JAUME PLENSA
The Catalan artist Jaume Plensa has presented his exhibition ‘Mirall’ in Palma, featuring two monumental metal sculptures that represent the faces of two people looking at each other inside the Gothic building of La Lonja. At Hotel Saratoga, we had the honor of hosting the author.
With this work, commissioned by the German Walter Smerling, the artist also evokes one of the main gods of ancient Rome: Janus, the two-faced deity, one looking to the past and the other to the future. “It’s about our face reflecting in the face of others—lovers and friends, strangers and acquaintances,” he commented.
In his opinion, La Lonja, a 15th-century building constructed by Guillem Sagrera, is ideal for his exhibition. “I chose these pieces immediately; I think they are very appropriate,” he noted.
The exhibition will be open for viewing until February 15.
