Experience Palma
Plan your stay and visit famous sites
Palma is a modern, cosmopolitan city, ideal for walking around and falling in love with it all. You will find traces of its fascinating history in its streets, unique buildings, monuments, museums and heritage, as well as a variety of restaurants, exclusive stores, art galleries, and lively local markets. Being a coastal city, you can also enjoy the sun and the beach, as well as spectacular sunsets by the sea. At Hotel Saratoga we will help you plan the best route to discover Palma.
La Seu and surrounding area
La Seu is the imposing Cathedral of Mallorca, in the Gothic style and rising majestically on the Paseo Marítimo next to the sea. Its tall towers and elegant flying buttresses stand as silent guardians of history, capturing the attention of all who stroll through the area. Next to it is the Royal Palace of the Almudaina and at its feet, the Parc de la Mar offers fabulous views of the bay. Nor should you miss the Arab Baths, Ses Voltes or the gardens of s'Hort del Rei, located nearby.
Modernist Route
In the old town you will find wonderful modernist buildings that reflect the splendor and creativity of this remarkable period, such as the Gran Hotel, the Forn des Teatre, Can Casasayas and the Pensión Menorquina, Can Corbella, Can Forteza Rey, Can Barceló, the El Águila building, Can Segura, or the Casa de les Mitges, all of them charming in the eyes of locals and visitors.
Plazas and promenades
The Plaza de España is the nerve center of Palma. From there you can take the urban buses that run to different areas of the city and the airport, and there is also the intermodal station (train, bus and subway). You can quickly get to the Plaza Mayor on foot, where you usually find street markets, street artists, musicians and jugglers; then the Paseo del Borne, a pedestrian avenue that features a large number of stores, restaurants and cafes, or the Plaza de Cort, where the Town Hall of Palma is located.
A quick look at the Gothic quarter
Palma has an important medieval legacy, from when Jaume I conquered Madina Mayurka. Travel back in time through the different Gothic buildings in the city, such as the Church of Santa Margalida, the parish church of Sant Jaume, the fascinating gargoyles of the Church of Santa Eulalia or the cloister of the Convent of Sant Francesc. Another highlight is La Lonja, one of the best civil Gothic buildings in Palma. It has a rectangular floor plan covered with ribbed vaults. It forms a single space divided into twelve parts by six pillars without a base or capital that rise towards the ceiling to form the ribs of the vaults. These six pillars resemble stone palm trees. Above the entrance door there is a large sculpture of the Guardian Angel, attributed to Guillem Sagrera himself, who was a sculptor as well as an architect.
Wonders just a few steps away
The Hotel Saratoga is very close to several places that you are bound to pass through. Among them, the Avenida de Jaime III, which brings together some of the most exclusive and luxurious brands; the Sa Feixina park or the Santa Catalina neighbourhood, with its picturesque narrow streets, unique shops and lively nightlife where the mixture of tradition and modernity make it a charming enclave.
Avant-garde and trends in art
Es Baluard - Museum of Contemporary Art of Palma, located two minutes from the hotel, offers a diverse and dynamic collection of works by local and international artists. Its modern architecture contrasts with the medieval history that surrounds it, creating a unique cultural space with different areas: the central courtyard, the old cistern, the arches and the viewpoint, where all kinds of cultural events and interdisciplinary activities take place.
At Hotel Saratoga we show our commitment to art and culture by welcoming artists who exhibit their works in this outstanding museum, as well as coordinating all kinds of exhibitions in different areas of our establishment, which are renewed every month.
